GRASS: Distinguishing Planet-induced Doppler Signatures from Granulation with a Synthetic Spectra Generator

چکیده
Owing to recent advances in radial-velocity instrumentation and observation techniques, the detection of Earth-mass planets around Sun-like stars may soon be primarily limited by intrinsic stellar variability. Several processes contribute this variability, including starspots, pulsations, granulation. Although many previous studies have focused on techniques mitigate signals from pulsations other types magnetic activity, granulation noise has date only been partially addressed empirically-motivated strategies magnetohydrodynamic simulations. To address deficit, we present GRanulation And Spectrum Simulator ($\texttt{GRASS}$), a new tool designed create time-series synthetic spectra with granulation-driven variability spatially- temporally-resolved observations solar absorption lines. In work, $\texttt{GRASS}$, detail its methodology, validate model against disk-integrated observations. As first-of-its-kind empirical for spectral due star perfectly known center-of-mass behavior, $\texttt{GRASS}$ is an important testing methods disentangling granular line-shape changes true Doppler shifts.

Distinguishing gauge-mediated from unified-supergravity spectra
We show that gauge-mediation and unified-supergravity give sufficiently firm and different predictions for the spectrum of supersymmetric particles to make it possible to discriminate the two scenarios even if the messenger mass is close to the unification scale. 1 According to our present theoretical understanding, the presence of supersymmetric partners of the three generation of fermions has...
متن کاملOptimizing Doppler estimates for extrasolar planet detection I. A specific algorithm for shifted spectra
We present an optimized algorithm to estimate from shifted stellar spectra the variations of radial velocity caused by a rotating planet. This algorithm is based on a rigorous approach in the spectral Fourier space that uses a weighted analysis of the cross spectrum phase between the high resolution spectra of the object and an appropriate reference. We give a simple method to calculate the bes...
متن کاملGiant Planet Atmospheres and Spectra
Direct measurements of the spectra of extrasolar giant planets are the keys to determining their physical and chemical nature. The goal of theory is to provide the tools and context with which such data are understood. It is only by putting spectral observations through the sieve of theory that the promise of exoplanet research can be realized. With the new Spitzer and HST data of transiting “h...
متن کاملTurbulence Spectra from Doppler-shifted Spectral Lines
Turbulence is a key element of the dynamics of astrophysical fluids, including those of interstellar medium, clusters of galaxies and circumstellar regions. Turbulent motions induce Doppler shifts of observable emission and absorption lines. In the review we discuss new techniques that relate the spectra of underlying velocity turbulence and spectra of Doppler-shifted lines. In particular, the ...
متن کاملA hydrogeophysical synthetic model generator
HGmod is a computer program that builds on stochastic realizations of porosity fields to derive electrical conductivity, dielectric permittivity and hydraulic permeability models. The presence of clay, the influence of salinity as well as temperature of the fluid of imbibition are taken into account in the underlying formulations. The saturated and unsaturated zones are also considered through ...
